First A Few Updates
There have been some great stories coming out of the chaos that last weekend’s flooding produced. The generosity of our folks has been tremendous this past 6 days. Many of you have spent time at the Old Mill helping our friends at The Watershed Fellowship and the other Mill tenants. Today some moms and kids were able to pack up a bunch of school supplies (the list is too long to publish here) for kids in Irmo that were impacted by the flooding so that when they return to school life might start to return to normal…at least a little.
No Work at the Old Mill This Weekend
There will be no work at the Old Mill this weekend. Thank you to all of you who have spent numerous hours helping clean up, remove sheetrock and prepare for the tenants to begin rebuilding.
We look forward to telling more of these stories in the coming weeks, but for now here are some continuing opportunities to work.
Work Plans For This Weekend
Below are some opportunities to serve. If at all possible we would like to fill these teams / complete these projects in the order listed.
Below each opportunity you will find a contact name to which you can RSVP. If you intend to work at one of the following locations please RSVP before 9AM Saturday so that we can make sure we have enough people in the right places.
Priority #1 - Kilbourne Rd.
5031 Kilbourne Rd. | 10AM-4PM | 10 Volunteers
We continue to serve in the Kilbourne Rd. Community. There are only a few homes left to remove floors and sheetrock from. This is very manual labor and we are requesting 10 adults or students 9th grade and up.
Please come prepared with gloves, boots, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. If you have crow bars, hammers, circular saws and eye protection, much of this work is removing flooring and cutting sheetrock.
Please RSVP to Zach Farrar (803-767-2472) before 9AM Saturday.
Priority #2 - Lake Katherine
1625 Kathwood | 9AM | 20 Volunteers
We will be working in 3 homes to help mud-out, remove debris, cut / remove sheetrock and flooring. This is very manual labor and we are requesting 20 adults or students 9th grade and up.
Please come prepared with gloves, boots, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. If you have crow bars, hammers, circular saws and eye protection they would be helpful.
Please RSVP here before 9AM Saturday.
Priority #3 - Harrogate Rd. Neighborhood
We will be working alongside a lot of other organizations in helping remove debris, mud-out and clean-up in the Harrogate Rd. area of Columbia (off of Tram Rd.). Please have gloves, boots, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and any tools or cleaning supplies that would be good for removing debris, mud, sheetrock and flooring.
No RSVP is required, but you can contact Wes Howard with any questions (803-360-7817).
Food Prep & Distribution Volunteers Needed
The SCBC Disaster Relief Team is in need of folks to help prepare and distribute meals for First Responders and support shelters in the Columbia area this weekend. You do NOT have to be trained with the SC Baptist Convention to serve.
The work continues through the weekend. They will be working at the Columbia Maintenance Shed (3000 Harden Street, Columbia, SC; behind the SCE&G Building). If you are interested in serving, please contact David Branton (843-345-8068).
