Easter 2018

On the morning of Jesus’ resurrection from the tomb, Matthew records that there was an earthquake when the angel arrived to announce Jesus’ resurrection to the two Marys who were coming to anoint the body. Similarly, when Jesus breathed his last on Good Friday, there was an earthquake of enough magnitude that it caused the centurion to proclaim that “surely this was the Son of God”. These two earthquakes announced to the entire creation that these moments were the most important moments in all of history since creation. The aftershocks of these two moments are being felt as the Church continues to advance the Kingdom of God on earth 2000 years later. For the next two weeks we’ll continue to look at the aftershocks of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection on human history and look forward to the coming earthquake when He returns again.

The question today, on Easter, is: what will you do with the empty tomb? The angel rolled the stone away not to let Jesus out, but to let the women (and us) see inside that we might be forced to do something – to believe or not – that the tomb is empty and the Jesus is risen!
