John 1: 10-18

For the next several months we will be walking through the life and teachings of Jesus as told to us by someone who walked with Him, the Apostle John.

This week we continued on our trek through John’s Gospel. We unpacked the idea that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (1:14).  John, unlike the other Gospels, takes the time to show us the “why” of Jesus becoming man. His thesis verse in chapter 20 is emphatic that John’s sole desire was for everyone to read his words and “believe that Jesus is the Christ, and that in believing [we] would have eternal life.” The idea that Jesus was the full expression and full understanding of God the Father, is theologically deep, but more importantly, it is the concept on which we found our ability to inherit eternal life. This week, as we looked at verses like 1:12-13, it is important to note that our ability to be born again is not something that we can earn, but it is a gift given by God through Jesus so that we could experience Him in the full.

If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you.
