John 18:28-19:37

For the last several months we have been walking through the life and teachings of Jesus as told to us by someone who walked with Him, the Apostle John. We are coming to the close of Jesus’ life and earthly ministry.

This week John Reeves helped us take a big picture look at the crucifixion of Jesus. While we read verse-by-verse of the gruesome details surrounding his death, John spent much of the time looking at seventeen of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled by his death on the cross. Much like a great film director will spend arduous hours on telling a great love story – one that encompasses great details – all designed to get to the heart of the viewer, God has done the same in the life and death of Jesus. God’s intentions were not simply to tell an epic tale though. They were meant to shout to us how much He loves us. The detailed and coordinated specificity of the fulfillment of prophecies (some 1000’s of years before Jesus’ birth), were meant to point us to God’s loving plan for us and our salvation. They are worth taking note of in this passage. More than taking note though, they should drive us to worship our great King.

If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
