John 4:1-42

For the next several months we will be walking through the life and teachings of Jesus as told to us by someone who walked with Him, the Apostle John.

This week, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we jumped ahead in the Gospel of John to talk about Jesus’ interaction with the woman at the well. Jesus’ interaction broke cultural barriers, gender barriers, and eventually spiritual barriers. If there was ever any doubt that Jesus and His ministry valued women (in direct opposition to the cultural norms of His day), this story should put all those doubts to rest.

Jesus’ first revelation of Himself as the Messiah occurs in this story. He intentionally takes time to put His finger on this woman’s pain, not to call her to a sniveling repentance, but instead to meet her deepest need in the middle of her pain. Out of that, she is suddenly freed of her sin and out of that freedom she begins to bring others to the Messiah so that they might believe. Jesus intends to do the same with us. Further, His desire is for His Church to bring Him glory through our honoring and esteeming of women.

If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you.
