Image of God – Genesis 1:24-31
“The imago Dei (image of God) is God’s investment in humanity of God-like glory and moral capacity to reign and rule the earth as his representatives.”
– Matt Chandler (The Village Church)
In this first week of MADE we set out to establish a baseline: human beings are all made in the image of God. We began in Genesis 1:1 with the fact that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” If that foundational statement is not established as true, then there is a chance that the rest of the words that follow in Scripture are not true either. And if it is true, then, perhaps our right relationship to Scripture is to put ourselves under its’ authority. We moved from that statement to the creation of mankind and how we are all image bearers of God. It does not matter if we are male or female; black or white; American or Asian – we are all created, image bearers of the King of the Universe with intrinsic value. This is the foundation of our faith and the foundation for our study over the next 11 weeks.
Do you struggle to believe this? Do you struggle to believe that you have value because you bear the image of God in this world? If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
