Male & Female – Genesis 2:6-8; 15-25
“These things [hobbies, recreation, et. al] rule over him because he has lost sight of his own spiritual authority. Rather than being the head, he has become the tail – being wagged every which way by life’s storms.”
– Tony Evans (Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship)
In this second week of our study on how we are made in the image of God, John spoke directly to the men in the room. We talked about how the passivity that is so prevalent in our society among men is being further driven by a culture that demeans hard work and provision for the family. These have traditionally rested on the men of society to carry and for several decades now our culture has eschewed these good endeavors in favor of recreation, hobbies and general laziness. More than work though, provision for a family also means having a vision for what the family should be and taking responsibility for the spiritual outcomes in your home. John called men to have one conversation this week about the vision for their homes. For married men, that means a conversation with a spouse. For single men, that means a conversation with a friend or mentor about what hopes and dreams you have for your future family. It is time for men to stand up, lead and provide in the way God designed.
How did your conversation go this week? We’d love to hear stories about how this message challenged you or how it helped you take a step forward in following Jesus and leading your family. If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
