The Meaning of Marriage – Ephesians 5

“This means we are defining marriage as a lifelong monogamous relationship between a man and a woman.  According to the Bible, God devised marriage to reflect His saving love for us in Christ, to refine our character, to create stable human community for the birth and nurture of children, and to accomplish all this by bringing the complementary sexes into an enduring whole-life union.”

– Timothy Keller, The Meaning of Marriage

Over the last several weeks we have looked at how we were created individually as image-bearers of God. This week we began the next section of our series as we looked at the meaning of marriage. Our five-week mini-series started in Ephesians 5 by looking at God’s design for the marriage relationship. John Reeves used the model of the wedding ceremony to paint the picture for how our marriages were designed to show the glory and goodness of God to the world.

Over the next few weeks we will look at what it means to leave our family of origin and weave our lives together through communication. We’ll finish this portion by looking at what it means to cleave to one another with a healthy sex life within marriage. HINT: All of them begin with a foundation rooted in Jesus.

If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
