We began our exploration into the life of Ruth by looking at the historical context in which she lived. We also talked about the difficulties that fell on her mother-in-law, Naomi, that set the stage for her story and the showcase of redemption that it is. Though Naomi was a God-follower and was suffering from severe despair, Ruth could still see the Truth behind the pain. Ruth embraced the truth of Naomi’s God in spite of Naomi. As followers of Jesus this portion of the story should challenge and encourage us. It should challenge us to remember that as we proclaim the name of Jesus, people are watching and observing how we engage difficulties. It should encourage us that even in spite of our sinful responses sometimes, the Holy Spirit can and does still work to move the hearts of others toward a relationship with Jesus.
If you have not yet believed in Jesus, this story should challenge you to look past the Christians in your life and look into Jesus. If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them here.
