The Story – Old Testament: The Law
In an effort to get an overview of how the Bible works, it is helpful to look at the bigger pieces of Scripture (Creation, Fall, Flood, Nations, Abraham, etc.). As we started this year looking at the larger portions of the book of Genesis, we now turn our sites to running through the remainder of the Old Testament leading up to the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We continued our trek through the Old Testament this week as we fast-forwarded from the miraculous events of the Passover to God’s gift of the Law to Moses in Exodus 20. While many view the Ten Commandments to be cumbersome and difficult, Lead Pastor, John Reeves walked us through how the Law was given to be our tutor (Gal. 3:24) and point us to our need for a Savior – Jesus. In the book of Mark, Jesus summarizes the Ten Commandments in two basic distinctives: “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these,” (Mark 12:29-31, NLT). How are you doing prioritizing your relationship with Jesus and your neighbors?
If you would like to begin a conversation about following Jesus or would like to talk more about how your story and the Gospel connect, we would love to hear from you.
