Week 6
FOCUS QUESTION
How do I follow Jesus?
“Discipleship is not a path to autonomous self-improvement that leads to a throne; it is a path of self-denial that leads to a cross.” (J.T. English)
“Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ.” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)
TALK
Discuss the focus question and quotes 💬
TEACH
- Philippians 3:7-11
- Matthew 16:24
As always, read the full passage first and then walk through the verses line by line. What does it mean to consider nothing else important besides Jesus? Why would Paul say that?
TASK
- Make a chart (or a list) with three headings: 1) Time, 2) Attention, 3) Money (and resources). List the five activities that take up the most of your time, attention, and money 📝
- Looking at this list, consider what things you need to give up in order to follow Jesus.
HOMEWORK
- Continue praying for that five minute period! Check in on this discipline and make adjustments if necessary ✅
- Set up a Bible reading plan for both of you daily. You cannot follow Jesus unless you know who He is and which way He is going 📖🏃
- Suggestion: start by reading the Gospel of Matthew (one chapter each day for four weeks)
